Installing Fabric Patio Covers in your Garden

If you want to be able to get more use out of your garden, courtyard or other outdoor space, you might be considering installing fabric patio covers.. These are covers that will be put over a part of your garden, usually a patio or seating area, which can sometimes also be retracted into the building. They are multipurpose, attractive and incredibly useful and versatile, making them a popular choice for all kinds of homeowners. They might also be used for businesses, especially businesses where customers might be sitting out of doors and you want to make this space as flexbile as possible.

There is a lot of terminology surrounding patio covers, and also a lot of different options when you are choosing the ones that are right for you. Here are some of the most important ones explained:

1. Awning. This is a name for a patio cover that is attached to the exterior of a building. It is a piece of material stretched out over a frame that is then used to provide shelter. The frame will often be retractable.

2. Full cassette. This is a type of retractable awning where the fabric cover retracts fully into a case. The covering itself and the arms will be given full protection when inside the cassette. This is recommended to make the awning last in harsh weather.

3. Semi cassette. This type of awning retracts and is given some protection from the cassette. However, the arms do not go inside the cassette and don’t get as much protection. There are more options than there are with a full cassette, like longer arms, supports and lighting.

4. Open cassette awning. No casing is present when the awning is retracted. This type of awning is usually installed under a different type of covering, or underneath the eaves of a building, so that it has some additional protection.

5. Large terrace covers. Terrace covers are essentially large umbrellas or parasols that are standalone. They are a good type of patio cover if you have a large surface area and you aren’t going to want to attach the covering to the side of a building.

These are some of the main benefits of having a patio cover installed:

More versatile outdoor space. You will be able to get more use out of your patio or outdoor area. Even when the weather isn’t perfect, you will be able to stay outside for longer.

A better aesthetic. Patio covers can be really attractive and will enhance your home and its appearance. It adds a really attractive touch to a home and to a garden, making it a more pleasant place to sit and to spend time.

More usability. Your garden will suddenly become a more usable space – more like an extension of a room within the home, but with more fresh air and better views!

Choose a professional to install your awning or patio cover to make sure it is perfect. This isn’t something that should be undertaken by people who are not experienced.
