Watering Your Garden Effectively

We’re all feeling the pinch and should follow a best practice to water our gardens in the most effective way. Here’s a few tips on what we recommend for watering your garden in the best way;

Houseplants

Stand your houseplants on capillary matting. The matting which is felt-like, sucks water from a section of saved water, which enables the roots to suck it up.

Beds and Borders

Select plants that tolerate dry soil. A good example is lavendar, which is particularly good at retaining moisture.

Patios

Set up an automatic watering system which has a water timer fitted to an outdoor tap, which is also fitted to a micro-irrigation system. The water should seep out from the small holes of the pipes or the nozzles placed in pots.

Effective Watering

Watering plans less frequently, but more thoroughly is key in helping them develop deep root systems. These systems are better equipped to seek out moisture available in the soil.

Fit a water butt and save the hundreds of litres of rainwater which falls on wet periods.

Make sure to water in the morning or the evening, which allows the plants to soak up moisture before the warmest part of the day.
