If you would like to improve the results of your planting, then your soil will need to be in good condition. You can improve your soil with compost. Check our 4-step process below.
- Break up the lumps in your soil and dig thoroughly. If the soil in your garden has never been dug before, then use a spade. If it has been dug before, then use a garden fork.
- Start to add your compost, with a minimum of 5cm layering over the surface before you fork it in.
- Dig the soil deep and mix the compost in thoroughly.
- To firm up the soil, tread the area with your heels. If you get lumps of soil, then break with a garden fork. Once done, mix in fertiliser with a rake.
